Now, here's where the story gets interesting. After I sat there complaining for about 15 mins the Tech went to speak to another senior employee and they finally agreed to do a warranty replacement, thus saving me $300 (cost of the repair). Initially, they said there was nothing they could do to replace the battery on Apple's dime, since it was just out of warranty. I took my MBP to the Apple Store and spoke to the Tech at the Genius Bar. It’s like they didn’t expect their product to be last more than a year. But 1 year warranty on original parts is way too short. =/ I understand how people treated their laptops poorly should get extra warranty. I didn’t expect my $4000 MBP will have battery issue in year one. Now I’m kind of regret that I didn’t get Apple Care. You can probably ask him to bump up that date if you want to get it back sooner. I noticed when the Apple genius tech assessing the problem, he put down the pickup day at the beginning of the assessment. It took them five days to delivery to their centralize center to fix the issue (received email on 5th day said they’ve got my MBP) but only a day to fix it and returned it back to my Apple store. The original assessment was around $800, but the final price was around $300 (if I remember it correctly) then my warranty waived it off. According to them, they’ve replaced the battery, the bottom cover, keyboard and the part surrounding the keyboard. There is a reasonable expectation it will get 1000 cycle count, but can fail at anytime.I had mine replaced. Luck of the draw-not all batteries are made the same. Sure enough, the battery has swollen and warped the bottom of the case. I've just hit the year mark for that computer and I set it on my desk last night and it was rocking back and forth.

I got tired of this and bought a (at the time) new 2018 15" MacBook Pro w/Touchbar for school because I needed something more reliable. Every year my 2015 MBP's battery swells warping the bottom of the case and I have to take it in for repair. I'm curious what the frequency of this issue is or if I just have incredibly bad luck I have a 2015 15" MacBook Pro purchased in 2016 and a 2018 15" MacBook Pro purchased in March 2019.

As much as one can say that about Windows (took three days to get Hello to work with my Brio 4K camera).

Fortunately, I have a HP Windows 10 Pro laptop that seems to be more reliable. This couldn't have happened at a worse time for me as I've gone back to Uni and now with all courses being taught remote due to the pandemic I'm going be w/o my MacBook for who knows how long. Is anyone else seeing this with more recent MacBook Pros or do I just get lucky and get the defective laptops each time? I searched to communities and most of the instances of this seem to be with older laptops which had external batteries.
